A Case of Cortical Superficial Siderosis Presenting with Corticobasal Syndrome

چکیده
A 70-year-old man presented with slow gait and a clumsy hand on the right side. Neurological examination revealed dystonia ideomotor apraxia in hand. mask-like face, rigidity arm, shuffling were noticed. Treatment L-dopa had no effect. He was clinically diagnosed corticobasal syndrome (CBS). Susceptibility-weighted images of brain magnetic resonance imaging showed low-intensity areas surface cerebral cortex, especially left parietal lobe, stem, cerebellum, indicating superficial siderosis (SS). Neuropathological diffuse hemosiderin deposition over brain, including lobe. Cerebellar hemorrhage rupture to subarachnoid space Cortical SS should, therefore, be included differential diagnosis CBS.

Superficial cortical siderosis.
Cerebrovascular deposition of amyloid (cerebral amyloid angiopathy CAA) is most commonly recognized as a cause of spontaneous lobar intracerebral hemorrhage. On the basis of the noninvasive new MR imaging we would propose superficial cortical hemosiderosis and subarachnoid hemosiderosis as potentially useful new criteria to facilitate the diagnosis of CAA.
متن کاملA case of corticobasal degeneration presenting with alien limb syndrome.
Alien limb syndrome (ALS) is a very rare condition where the affected persons are not able to recognise the affected limb as their own, and regard it as being foreign or alien to them. We present a patient with ALS secondary to corticobasal degeneration, which is a rare neurodegenerative parkinsonian disorder. We discuss the clinical features, neuropathology and management of corticobasal degen...
متن کاملCerebral Microbleeds and Cortical Superficial Siderosis in Patients Presenting With Minor Cerebrovascular Events.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Transient focal neurological episodes occur in cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) and can mimic transient ischemic attack (TIA). Risk factors and outcomes of minor ischemic stroke or TIA might differ in patients with and without cerebral microbleeds (CMBs), including CAA-consistent lobar CMB. METHODS Baseline magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was analyzed for CMBs and cor...
متن کاملCharacteristics of progressive supranuclear palsy presenting with corticobasal syndrome: a cortical variant
AIMS Since the first description of the classical presentation of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) in 1963, now known as Richardson's syndrome (PSP-RS), several distinct clinical syndromes have been associated with PSP-tau pathology. Like other neurodegenerative disorders, the severity and distribution of phosphorylated tau pathology are closely associated with the clinical heterogeneity of...

Case 1 An elderly patient presented with insidious onset of sensorineural hearing loss. The past history was unremarkable except for insidious onset of weakness of left lower limb. Physical examination revealed left hemiparesis with upgoing left plantar. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of brain revealed a large flow void in the interpeduncular cistern suggestive of aneurysm arising from the to...
